Hosted by both “Exploration & evaluation of Steppic Ecosystems” and ” Development in Mechanics & Materials ” Laboratories and the IEEE GRSS Algeria, The third edition of the Algerian Geoscience and Remote Sensing Summer School – AGR3S 2019 – will be held from 6th to 11th July, 2019, at the Ziane Achour University in Djelfa, Algeria.
The AGR3S 2019 will host highly recognized experts and lecturers, their main focus will be on geoscience and remote sensing and their applications in different scopes:

Registration will be onsite upon arrival: on 05th July at the Hotel El-Emir & on the 06th of July from 7:30 to 9:30 in Registration hall at the Auditorium in Djelfa University

Konstantinos P. Papathanassiou received the Dipl. Ing degree in 1994 and the Dr. degree in 1999 from the Technical University of Graz, Austria. From 1992 to 1994 he was with the Institute for Digital Image Processing (DIBAG) of Joanneum Research, in Graz, Austria. Between 1995 and 1999 he worked at the Microwaves and Radar Institute (HR) of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany. From 1999 to 2000 he was an EU post-doctoral fellow with Applied Electromagnetics (AEL) in St. Andrews, Scotland. Since October 2000 he is again with the Microwaves and Radar Institute (HR) of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Actually he is a senior scientist leading the Information Retrieval research group at DLR-HR. His main research interests are in polarimetric and interferometric processing and calibration techniques, polarimetric SAR interferometry, and the quantitative parameter estimation from SAR data, as well as in SAR mission design and SAR mission performance analysis. He is member of DLR’s TanDEM-X and Tandem-L science teams, JAXA’s ALOS-PalSAR Cal-Val teams, ESA’s BIOMASS Mission Advisory Group and JAXA’s Carbon and Kyoto Initiative and NASA’s GEDI Mission Science Team. He has more than 60 peer-reviewed articles in international journals and of more than 300 contributions in international conferences and workshops. He was awarded with the IEEE GRSS IGARSS Symposium Prize Paper Award in 1998, the Best Paper Award of the European SAR Conference (EUSAR) in 2002 and the IEEE GRSS J-STARS Paper Award in 2019. In 2002 he received the got the DLR science award, in 2011 he was awarded with DLR’s Senior Scientist Award and with the IEEE Fellow Award in 2015. |

Pr. Riadh Abdelfattah is presently the vice-President of the University of Carthage (since December 15th, 2017) and Professor at the Higher School of Communications for engineers (SUP’COM) at the University of Carthage in Tunisia. He also is an Associate Researcher at the Department ITI at IMT-Atlantique, Brest, France. He is an elected member at the scientific council of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF, 2016-2018) and a member of the “Commission Régionale des Experts” of AUF. He was an elected member (2011-2017) at the university council of Carthage.
He received the engineer degree from the Telecommunication Engineering School of Tunis, Tunisia in 1995, the Master Degree (DEA) and the the Ph.D degree in Electrical Engineering from the ” Ecole Nationale Ingénieurs de Tunis”, in 1995 and 2000 respectively, and ”le Diplôme de l’Habilitation Universitaire” from SUP’COM at the University of Carthage in Tunisia in 2008. He is a senior member of the IEEE and he served as a member of the Executive Committee of the IEEE Tunisia Section (2013-2015). He has authored and co-authored more than 70 journal papers, conference papers and book chapters. His main research interests include interferometric radar imagining, multiemporal and multiscale image analysis, desertification, flooding and soil salinity mapping from remote sensed data, and SAR-nanosatellite development. |

Dr. Hasni kamel received his Bachelor degree in Mathematics from ORAN University, Algeria in 1998 and MS in Geodesy and Space Techniques Applications from National Centre of Space Techniques (CNTS), Arzew, Oran, Algeria in 2007, and received a PhD degree in SAR signal processing from the School of Electronics and Information Engineering, Beihang University, China. He has been working at the Centre of Space Techniques (CTS), Arzew since 2007.
His main research interests concern, Interferometric SAR data processing and ionospheric effect analysis on DInSAR, land crust deformation using SAR imagery related techniques and the deformation evolution monitoring by the mean of multi-temporal SAR algorithms. |
Dr: Rachid Hedjam

Dr. Rachid Hedjam received his Master’s degree in Computer Science and Operations Research from the University of Montreal (Canada) in 2009. He then joined the “Synchromedia Laboratory for Multimedia Communication in Telepresence” at the École de technologie supérieure (ETS, University of Quebec) and got his Ph.D. degree in 2013 with highest honor. He was awarded by FQRNT doctoral scholarship and ETS scholarships. He has received numerous academic awards during his doctoral and postdoctoral studies. In October 2013, he began his postdoctoral research at the Department of Geography (Laboratory of Applied Remote Sensing) at McGill University (Canada), where he worked on multispectral image processing and pattern recognition for cultural heritage preservation, forensic and remote sensing. His research was funded by FQRNT. Since September 2017, he joined the computer science department at Sultan Qaboos University (Sultanate of Oman) as assistant professor. He is conducting various research projects in machine learning, namely clustering, classification and change detection with an application to network security and remote sensing. His is also a member of IEEE GRSS. |
Dr. Issam Boukerch

Issam Boukerch was born in Tipaza, Algeria, in 1979. In 2003, he graduated in Geodetic Sciences and Surveying from the Centre National des Techniques Spatiales, Arzew, Algeria. In 2006, he received his M.Sc. degree in Space Sciences and Technologies from the UN affiliated Centre Regional Africain des Sciences et des Technologies de l’Espace en Langue Française, Rabat, Morocco. In 2018, he obtained a Ph.D. degree in Geography at the Université d’Oran 2, Oran, Algeria. Since 2003, he is a Senior Researcher at the Centre des Techniques Spatiales, Arzew, Algeria. His main research interests concern close range and aerial photogrammetry and geometric modeling of remote sensing imagery systems.

Khelifa Djerriri is currently the lab head of signal and image processing in remote sensing at the earth observation department, Centre of Space Techniques (CTS). He received the computer engineer degree from University of Sidi Bel Abbes, the Magister’s degree in remote sensing from the Centre of Space Techniques. His main research interests concern texture analysis, object-based analysis, deep learning and cloud computing in remote sensing. Mr. Djerriri is a full member of IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society. |

The First AGR3S School was an initially inaugurated by the GRSS Algeria Chapter, headed by Dr. Boularbah SOUSSI in 2017 with the collaboration of Boumerdes University, which was so successful it was organized again in 2018 as a second edition, this time, with the Algerian National Space Agency and Space Techniques Center.

A– All the lectures of AGR3S 2019 will be held at the Ziane Achour University of Djelfa, Algeria.Q– What is/are be the language(s) used during the AGR3S 2019
A– For the school attendees, the language used is English only, but for the Posters, both English and French are authorized.Q– What documents are required for the application process?
A– You only need to submit your CV, and the abstract if you intend to participate with a poster.Q– How long will it take to know if I have been accepted?
A– Applicants will be notified by March 25th, 2019Q– When do I have to pay participation fees?
A– Concerning the participation fees, more details will be mentioned in the final program.Q– Will I receive a certificate at the end of the AGR3S 2019?
A– Sure, every participant will have a certificate. For the Poster session participants, certificates will be given at the end of the first day, but for the school attendees, they will be given on the last day July 11th, 2019.Q– How and when will I receive my certificate?
A– At the end of Poster session/school, the certificates would be given by the organizing committee.Q– If I have to cancel my participation, will I be refunded?
A– If you have to cancel your participation, you wouldn’t have any problem since the participation fees are to be paid at the beginning of the AGR3S 2019.Q– Is there a minimum academic standard?
A– The academic standard is insured by the IEEE and the AGR3S scientific committeeQ– Can I edit or delete my submission?
A– Yes you can update your submission and change your files until the deadline is met- Q– How can I know if I’m accepted or not?
